There are just over six weeks to go until Global Pet Expo 2012, where PetQuip is managing a British exhibitor group for a third successive year. Would-be visitors are reminded that the show is only open to qualified buyers of pet care products. On-line registration is now open and returning qualified buyers can register using their previously assigned usernames and passwords.

First-time buyer attendees can also register on-line but must provide the proofs of business required by the organisers, including an invoice for pet care products purchased wholesale and in quantity from a manufacturer or distributor for resale.

UK Trade & Investment to support eligible British exhibitors with grants of £1,000

UKTI’s Tradeshow Access Programme (TAP) for the first quarter of the 2012-13 financial year contains a limited number of cash grants of £1,000 for eligible British firms exhibiting at Interzoo. The grants are made to small to medium sized enterprises that are ‘New to Export’, or have been exporting for less than 10 years, or have not exhibited at the previous edition of the show.

A further stipulation is that grant applicants must spend at least £2,000 on qualifying exhibition costs such as stand space and construction, the show organisers’ communications package and freight costs. Interzoo attracted more than 38,000 trade visitors (96 per cent of whom were involved in the purchasing decisions of their businesses) from 115 countries last year. Almost 24,000 of them came from outside Germany. The top 10 countries for international visitors were Italy, France, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Spain, the Russian Federation, Poland, Austria and the USA.

PetQuip is offering a comprehensive stand package at Interzoo 2012, designed so that exhibitors can just turn up and display their products. The package includes floor space, walls, carpet, lighting, fascia panel, table, chairs, counter, electricity and daily stand cleaning. Firms can choose to exhibit in the British pavilion in a prime location at the front of Hall 9 or in other areas of the show if they prefer and still benefit from our full support.

Based on an exchange rate of £1:€1.12, the cost of the stand package is about £248 per square metre, plus a mandatory charge made by the organisers for the Communications Package of £430 and the PetQuip management fee (£415+VAT for members of PetQuip; £595+VAT for non-members).

Explorer visit to Pet Fair Asia, Shanghai

Pet Fair Asia is moving across Shanghai to the World Expo Exhibition & Convention Centre in 2012. Now in its 15th edition, Pet Fair Asia is staged annually over a period of four days. With the first two days being exclusively for the trade, the fair offers an unrivalled opportunity for overseas suppliers to break into the burgeoning pet care market in the region centred on Shanghai.

Of the 500 exhibitors who took part in last year’s fair, almost a quarter were from abroad. Pet Fair Asia 2011 attracted more than 40,000 visitors from 23 countries, including 11,000 professional visitors, as well as visiting groups from Northern Europe, India, Japan, Korea and Hong Kong.

Our reconnaissance visit to Pet Fair Asia 2011 produced some interesting sales leads for PetQuip members and providing there is sufficient support, we plan to offer a package of activities for visitors from the UK to this year’s fair, including a catalogue showcase, meetings with potential distributors, and a tour of retail outlets in Shanghai. Irish pet care trade is already looking forward to PetEx 2012

The organisers report that there’s been a great response to date for stand bookings at PetEx 2012, Ireland's national pet and aquatic trade show which has moved to a new venue in Dublin's popular Burlington Hotel. PetEx, which is now biennial, aims to attract buyers from specialist retailers, garden centres and veterinary practices from both Northern and Southern Ireland to this two day event.
